Don't Leave Fido or Fifi Out...
It's a New Year and time for that age old tradition of creating your resolutions for the upcoming one. You know, the resolutions you keep for a week or so before you fall back into your old routine. ;o)
But, it doesn't have to be like that and one way to ensure it won't is to include your pet in on the "fun". So, with that in mind, here's a "baker's dozen" of ways to improve the life of you and your pawsome friend.
#1 – Ensure that his id tag and/or microchip information is up to date.
#2 – Carefully measure your pet's food – studies show that more than 50% of our pets are overweight and overfeeding is one of the main reasons. Read the instructions on the label and check with your vet if you have any questions.
#3 – Create a bucket list for your senior pet – the excitement of each stop on the list will get his tail wagging and your heart soaring!
#4 – Schedule her yearly checkup – early detection of any health issues is important. It wouldn't be a bad idea for you to schedule your own physical, as well.
#5 – Improve your knowledge of pet first aid – familiarize yourself with basic techniques because injuries or ingestion of something they shouldn't be eating usually seems to happen after the vet is closed. Here's a good pet first aid kit if you don't already have one.
#6 – Get more exercise by going on more frequent walks and walking a little longer when you do – another one that is good for both of you.
#7 – Brush your pet's teeth daily – a healthy mouth is a great start towards keeping Fido's overall health in order. Virbac CET comes in formulations for dogs and cats.
#8 – Engage in new activities – this is a win-win-win because it will help you both maintain your proper weight, increase your stamina and gain more bonding time. Not sure where to begin? How about a visit to the dog park or a play date with Fido's BFF?
#9 – Clean Fifi's bed and blankets and get rid of old, germ-infested toys.
#10 – Incorporate more playtime in your daily routines – play catch, get a new toy that you both can enjoy, etc. This works for cats, too. Laser pointer, anyone?
#11 – Start a savings account for your pet to be better prepared for the cost of any emergency care required. You might also want to think about
pet insurance.
#12 – Perform pet-related community service – donate beds, blankets, food or cash to a local rescue or shelter. Become a foster pet parent. Walk shelter dogs.
#13 – Groom your pet more often – great for your pet's coat and a nice way to have some quality bonding time. We recommend HandsOn Gloves to make this a better experience for both of you.
