What Makes Flat-Faced Dogs So Special?

It's so easy to fall in love with a flat-faced doggo. But, is it the way they look, the way they act or some other flat-faced trait that makes them so adorable? We'd say all of the above. Technically speaking, flat-faced dogs are referred to as "brachycephalic" which means "shortened head". The skull bones of brachycephalic breeds are shorter than normal delivering the pushed-in faces and noses that people find irresistible.

Among the flat-faced breeds, the most popular include the Boston Terrier, Boxer, Bulldog, French Bulldog (top breed in the U.S.), Lhasa Apso, Pekingese, Pug and Shih Tzu. And while they are off the charts cute, their flat-faces can also contribute to more than their share of health concerns.
