Introducing New Training Kibble: This Week Featuring Cesar Millan
For many of us, pets are considered precious members of the family, but playful pets can also bring some unwanted household messes. By creating a pet-friendly approach to cleaning, you can improve your home as well as your dog’s behavior towards the cleaning process.
My approach to cleaning around pets is simple: If you are stressed or frustrated when you go to pick up a cleaning tool, your dog can pick up on this negative energy and associate the cleaning tool with negativity. This can create instability and can result in problematic behaviors.
If you feel yourself getting frustrated, take a step back and recharge for five minutes before starting. Relax and focus on being calm and assertive. Also, consider how you are cleaning. Tools that can help make your job easier, like the Swiffer SweeperVac which does two things at once, will make you more relaxed about the process – and dogs pick up on that.
My friends at Swiffer redesigned their SweeperVac so that you can sweep and vacuum at the same time. This means less work for you, and less time cleaning, so you can easily clean up dirt, pick up crumbs and sweep away pet hair. We’ve all seen clumps of pet hair hiding in hard-to-reach corners and under furniture and cupboards - this new design makes getting to those places easy, so you get a thorough clean every time. The floor is where your pets sometimes sleep or eat, so keeping the environment spotless and hair-free is good for their health and yours!
